What each one actually does
NAD+: the coenzyme behind your energy

Glutathione: the antioxidant your cells make themselves
Glutathione is three amino acids joined together, made inside nearly every cell, and present at higher concentrations than any other antioxidant you produce. Its job is protection. It hands an electron to reactive oxygen species before they can damage membranes, proteins, or the collagen scaffolding in your skin, regenerates spent vitamin C and E, and helps the liver package compounds for clearance. Once used it is "spent" and has to be recycled back to its active form, a step that depends on the NAD family of coenzymes. Hold that thought.
The skin connection is what draws most women to glutathione. Melanocytes, the cells that make pigment, respond to oxidative stress by producing more of the darker eumelanin. Glutathione shifts that balance toward the lighter pheomelanin and lowers the oxidative signal driving overproduction. In plain terms: it is associated with a more even, brighter tone rather than with bleaching, from the inside rather than the surface. A small 2017 trial of oral glutathione in healthy volunteers reported modest, mostly trend-level improvements in skin tone and elasticity over 12 weeks, though it was short and oral, not injectable.

NAD+ and glutathione (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) operates through two parallel pathways. The telomerase pathway activates the hTERT gene, reactivating telomerase to rebuild telomere caps and extend cellular lifespan beyond the Hayflick limit. The pineal pathway protects pinealocytes from age-related apoptosis, restoring melatonin production to youthful levels. Together, these mechanisms address both cellular aging (telomere shortening) and neuroendocrine aging (pineal gland calcification).

How strong is the evidence?
Here is the honest version, before the sales pitch you will find elsewhere. The cellular roles of both molecules are settled biochemistry; no serious scientist disputes what NAD+ or glutathione does inside a cell. What is far less settled is how much benefit a healthy woman gets from injecting either one, and how big that benefit is.
For NAD+, the animal data are striking: restoring NAD+ in aged mice improves energy metabolism, exercise capacity, and several markers of tissue function. Human trials are fewer, shorter, and mostly used oral precursors (nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide) rather than NAD+ itself. A 2018 randomized trial showed six weeks of a precursor safely raised blood NAD+ by about 60 percent in healthy middle-aged and older adults. That is a real signal. It is not the same as a trial of subcutaneous NAD+ in women who feel tired, which does not yet exist at scale.

For glutathione, the age-decline story is well documented: a 2011 Baylor study found older adults synthesize markedly less glutathione than young adults and carry higher oxidative stress as a result. The skin-tone evidence is real but modest, built on small trials of oral and topical glutathione. Injectable glutathione has decades of clinical use but few large controlled trials for cosmetic goals. Most of the deeper mechanistic work, as with NAD+, is in animals or cell culture.

What this means for you
